Forspoken: 8 skills dedicated to magical parkour introduced in a new gameplay presentation

Forspoken is still expected early next year on both PS5 and PC. This adventure taking the form of a isekai will put us in charge of the young New Yorker Frey Hollandtransported to Athia where she will be endowed with magical powers, allowing her to fight, but also to move with elegance. This is one of Frey’s core powers, and the essence of parkour in Forspoken.

You activate it by holding down the circle key. In this state, Frey soars into the world with speed and grace. She will automatically jump over small rocks, ledges, low walls and do anything to move forward in the direction you point her to.

Of course, this skill has its limits. Using Dash alone will not allow Frey to scale a cliff or the facade of a building. Additionally, the skill requires stamina. To move gracefully, you’ll need to pair Dash with Frey’s other skills, and learn to chain them together.

It’s actually the foundation of a system that puts you in control of your movements, rather than letting the game do it for you. The more you play, the better you will move, and the cooler Frey will look.

fuser



The Fuser skill allows you to use Dash even faster by pressing keys at the right time.

While using Dash, you will sometimes see flames emanating from Frey. Press the circle button when you see them, and she’ll dash forward while keeping her pace. Even better, it allows you to maintain your speed while recovering stamina.

It’s a good example of how easy it is to get started with Forspoken’s parkour system, but also proves that it can take some mastery. A player new to the game can move around just fine using Basic Dash, but experienced players can use Fuser to go further, faster, for longer.

Soar



Want to speed up quickly? It’s time to use Soar.

This skill allows Frey to lift off the ground to accelerate. Press X at the right time, and Frey will leap forward. If you press X again when it hits the ground, you will continue to dash forward at prodigious speed.

This movement also helps to maintain your stamina. Many skills use this resource, and when it runs out, Frey’s run ends. Sometimes it will be necessary to let Frey catch his breath. Indeed, her stamina recharges quickly when she is not using a skill.

This is why skills such as Fuse and Dash are very useful. Since they do not consume stamina, they allow you to go much further than normal. The more you play, the more you will be able to maintain your rhythm… which will please you!

Climb



Dash allows you to climb to a certain extent, but if you want to go higher, you will need to learn the Climb skill.

The latter allows Frey to create ephemeral holds to project himself into the air. You can use it to give yourself a boost to get to the top of a structure or launch yourself to keep moving through the world smoothly.

Having that extra jump available is great, but you know what would be really awesome? Have an extra extra jump. Which leads me to the next point…

To climb



Climbing allows you to go even higher by performing several jumps in quick succession.

As the name suggests, Climb allows Frey to reach heights beyond the reach of a normal jump. This extra height is a real game-changer, allowing you to reach areas that would otherwise be inaccessible to you, and opening up even more possibilities for your frantic run.

Granted, it might not be the most spectacular skill in Frey’s repertoire, but you’ll quickly wonder how you ever managed without it!

propel oneself



A grappling hook, that’s spectacular!

By pressing the Square key, Frey will be able to launch a magic link that attracts him to everything he touches. It’s useful for allowing you to keep moving in situations where you’d fall, or for getting around props that might otherwise slow you down.

You can also hold down the square key to slow down time and target the areas you want to move towards. The Clawshot can cling to any wall, but it really comes into its own when targeting certain objects found in the world. These allow Frey to swing forward at incredible speeds or launch into the air!

Float


You took advantage of Dash, Climb, Climb and Launch to get high, but now you need to descend quickly. What to do ? You are using the skill Float!

This infinitely useful skill allows Frey to manipulate gravity to cushion his fall. All you have to do is hold down the X button while in the air, and you can float gently while controlling your speed.

Of course, its applications go far beyond mere survival. This skill is especially useful for getting around. Floating allows you to effortlessly cross wide open spaces. Do you want to cross a ravine and jump from building to building? Most of the time, you’ll just need to swipe to your destination.

Be careful though, you will lose altitude. When covering great distances, feel free to use other parkour skills as well, such as Propel.

Slide



Streams slow you down, keep you from moving forward, and are often teeming with over-toothed monsters looking to pawn you. In other words, they are the enemy of parkour.

If you don’t have the Slide skill, of course.

You may have seen it in the trailers before. It allows Frey to surf on the surface of the water. If Frey learns this skill, it automatically activates when you use Dash Water. Simply hold down the circle key to slide.

The speed and style adopted when traveling make every lake, river and sea an opportunity to show off. This ability is especially useful when fighting one of the previously mentioned damp monsters. Thanks to it, you will be able to turn in circles around them. Or, more accurately, gliding in circles around them.

Forspoken is one of those games where the movement itself is particularly entertaining. The crossing is no more than a simple trip from point A to point B; now it’s all about skill and style.

It’s up to you to discover how to combine these different magical skills to achieve “floating” in the world. Once you figure out how, getting around will be endless fun.
