Forspoken: Frey Goes Wild In Magic Trailer, Shared Spell List

Unfortunately for the players who were waiting for it, Forspoken ultimately won’t be released in May, since Square-Enix announced earlier this week a postponement of several months. However, as we learned afterwards, this month it is in the spotlight of Game Informerwhich has already started sharing unreleased content with a video of gameplay dedicated to spells and therefore to the combat system.

As co-director Takefumi Terada told the US Editor, magic is the heart of Forspoken, so there will be diversity on that side. And in fact, Game Informer also have listing 20 different spells that Frey can useto be found below.

attack magic

  • Shot – This basic spell, like the rest of the attack magics on this list, is mapped to the right trigger and does not require a cooldown. However, it deals minimal damage to compensate. The small bullet-shaped explosions are more akin to throwing rocks at enemies than war-ready projectiles.
  • Burst Shot – The first version of this spell we saw listed it as level 3, which told us that you can enhance various magic attacks. Burst Shot manifests a glowing piece of rock in your hand, which you can throw at enemies.
  • Slice – Among the most visually exciting spells we’ve seen in Forspoken, Slice conjures up a magic sword dripping with flaming sparks. Sparkling red magic flies through the air when you swing the weapon.
  • Bow Slice – Call down that Sword of Fire again to execute a powerful downward blow, dropping the unlucky target of your Fury to the ground. It hits harder if you’re in the air, but range is limited if your feet aren’t touching the ground.
  • Blast Slice – Requiring a little more range than its counterparts, Blast Slice spawns a weapon that looks like a cross between a spear and a lightning bolt. You can throw them at hostile creatures, and it will also affect the surrounding area.
  • bolt – Throw a blue orb at enemies that looks a bit like a glittering snowball. It won’t cause much harm, but you can throw the Winter Magic Ball multiple times without missing any.
  • Fanbolt – Another upgradable spell, Fan Bolt takes the blue orb from the old spell and splits it into multiple arrow-shaped projectiles. These will fire in a horizontal row, making it great for taking out multiple enemies.
  • Cluster Bolt – One of creative producer Raio Mitsuno’s favorite attacks, this spell fires a single mystical arrow into the sky. During its descent, the shaft breaks, flooding everything below with shards causing damage.
  • dart – This magic attack works very well as Shot. Greenish, knife-like bursts instantly shoot out of your hand towards a target. You seem to have an endless supply, but they aren’t very powerful.
  • Pulse Dart – Before sending another blast of green to your enemies, this spell – which can be upgraded – allows you to charge the attack into your hand for a second. The result is a noticeably more powerful barrage of darts.

support magic

  • bind – Instead of doing direct damage, most support magic – which you can use by pressing the left trigger – gives Frey a boost or helps strengthen other attacks. Bind, for example, invites brambles tangling enemies. This makes them easy targets for your attacks.
  • Premium – According to its description, this spell “places a magic trap at the location of your choice which explodes when you step on it, inflicting area damage”. This will not only deal damage, but also give you more time to charge another spell.
  • Charged – Launch towards your enemies in an explosive burst, surrounded by mystical tendrils resembling magma. Sometimes a shoulder to a face is all you need to take out an enemy.
  • Distortion – Distortion is an area of effect attack that starts with a green orb in your hand. You then throw the enchanted sphere at your opponents, causing a green explosion of mist around them.
  • Shooting – Intended primarily as a defense option, this spell will cause several flame-touched swords to hang in the air behind you. If an enemy attacks while you’re busy charging your next magic move, these deadly weapons will fight them off.
  • Legion – If summoning a series of swords to protect yourself sounds cool, you’re going to want to learn Legion. Instead of inanimate objects, you’ll find a horde of fiery allies behind your back when you use this power.
  • Crucible – This spell aims to boost the player rather than cause direct damage. Choosing to shoot Crucible will enclose the area in a wall of fire, inside which attack power is increased.
  • naedre – A glowing purple trail weaves through the sky and flies towards and around enemies, poisoning them. This is also another of Mitsuno’s favorite arcane tricks.
  • Maelstrom – Maelstrom’s in-game description reads: “Summons a watery pillar at the designated location that protects against ranged attacks. The resulting twisted water column is as cool as it looks.
