Forspoken: Square Enix disappointed by “poor” sales

The Japanese Studio Square-Enix just released its latest financial statement this weekend, and it’s not very good. The developer and publisher returns in particular to the case of ForspokenA Action RPG developped by Luminous Productionsa team formed with designers from Final Fantasy XV.

But Forspoken disappointed players, Square-Enix announced last month that it would merge Luminous Productions with his other teams. And the president of Square-EnixYosuke Matsuda, declared From now on :

Reviews for Forspoken, which we launched on January 24, 2023, have been tough. However, the game also received positive feedback on its action features, including its parkour and combat mechanics, so it delivered results that will lead to improving our abilities to develop other games in the future.

That said, its sales were poorand while the performance of new titles released in February and March will be the ultimate determinant, we expect considerable downside risk to our third quarter fiscal 2023 revenue.

Without quoting them, Yosuke Matsuda also claims that other small and medium-sized games have not achieved the expected sales performance in recent months. Square-Enix as a reminder released a package of titles like The DioField Chronicle, Star Ocean The Divine Force, Harvestella, Tactics Ogre: Reborn, Dragon Quest Treasures, Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII Reunion or Valkyrie Elysium.

Re Forspoken, Square-Enix hope that the title will still manage to sell over time with promotionsand the DLC In Tanta We Trust is still planned for this summer. Available on PC and exclusively consoles on PS5, the title could also be entitled to a port on Xbox Series X|S, but not before January 2025. You can find Forspoken To 51 € on Amazon.
