Fortuna increases pressure on HSV
Kiel continues to storm towards promotion with plenty of goals

Holstein Kiel doesn’t want to leave anything to chance when it comes to promotion this time: After the North Germans failed in relegation in 2021, they are now rushing from victory to victory and towards direct promotion. There is a tight race for the relegation place, Fortuna Düsseldorf is making a successful showing.
SV Wehen Wiesbaden – Fortuna Düsseldorf 0:2 (0:1)
Fortuna Düsseldorf has clung to the relegation spot in the promotion race of the 2nd Bundesliga. The Rhinelanders celebrated their fifth league win in a row with a 2-0 (1-0) win after a long majority at SV Wehen Wiesbaden and extended their lead over Hamburger SV (48) to four points for the time being. HSV plays on Sunday (1.30 p.m./Sky and in the live ticker on ntv.de) at 1. FC Magdeburg.
Shinta Appelkamp (13th) and Isak Johannesson (64th) scored for the guests, who benefited from a controversial red card against Hyunju Lee (35th). Newly promoted Wiesbaden (31) remains in danger of relegation.
Düsseldorf started mercilessly efficiently in a first half with few chances. Appelkamp gave coach Daniel Thioune’s team the lead with the first shot of the game. Then Lee kicked Fortuna’s Yannik Engelhardt from behind in the calf when he fouled, and referee Timo Gerach decided to send him off. Much to the displeasure of Wiesbaden’s coach Markus Kauczinski, who was shown a yellow card for complaining. Düsseldorf really set the tone when they had the majority, and after great preparatory work from Appelkamp, Johannesson increased.
Holstein Kiel – VfL Osnabrück 4:0 (2:0)
Holstein Kiel is clearly still on its upward trajectory. Coach Marcel Rapp’s team pushed FC St. Pauli off the top spot at least for one day with a 4-0 (2-0) win against bottom-placed VfL Osnabrück. With the fifth win in a row without conceding a goal, Kiel is still six points ahead of the relegation place.
Steven Skrzybski (9th), Philipp Sander (38th), Timo Becker (76th) and Alexander Bernhardsson (84th) scored the favorite’s goals. Osnabrück is six points behind the relegation zone, with five games still to play.
Kiel set the tone from the start. After Lewis Holtby won the ball, Skrzybski took the early lead. Skrzybski (14th) and Bernhardsson (17th) missed further good opportunities, Sander did better. After the change, Osnabrück became a little stronger, but the bottom of the table was rarely dangerous. Kiel mostly controlled the encounter – and extended their lead even further.
SC Paderborn – Karlsruher SC 1:1 (1:1)
Karlsruher SC has continued its points streak. The Baden team missed out on a three-pointer at SC Paderborn with a 1-1 draw (1-1), but remained undefeated for the fourth time in a row. As a result, the KSC ranks seventh in the table with 43 points. Paderborn is in ninth place and has been waiting for a sense of success for six games now. In the Paderborn Arena, Sirlord Conteh scored for the home team (21st), Igor Matanovic was successful at KSC (26th).
The 1-0 win for the home team was helped by a failed rescue attempt by Karlsruher Leon Jensen. The KSC responded immediately in the person of Matanovic.
In the 35th minute, referee Alexander Sather decided on a hand penalty for Paderborn, but reversed the decision after video evidence. In the second half, both teams lacked efficiency and the score remained a draw.
