It was expected, and it’s now official: this Tuesday, Apple renewed its series Foundation for a third season. The end of season 2 was released last September on the Apple TV+ streaming platform.
Apple takes care of its SF jewel
This adaptation of Foundation Cycle by Isaac Asimov, published between 1942 and 1950, became in two short seasons one of the most important and popular programs on Apple’s service, despite the harshness of its story.
As a reminder, the saga Foundation tells the story of a group of exiles on the edge of the galaxy, responsible for preserving the knowledge of civilization, and protecting it from a Galactic Empire doomed to collapse.

It is therefore not surprising to see the Cupertino company strengthening its prestigious program, to the great joy of creator David S. Goyer. The producer and co-creator of the series declared: “I’m happy that Apple has given us the opportunity to continue telling Asimov’s visionary galactic saga”.
David S. Goyer took the opportunity to give some indications on what we can expect from this season 3: “This time, the stakes for the Foundation and the Empire are even higher as The Mule now takes center stage”.
The Mule (played in the series by Mikael Persbrandt) is one of the most powerful and terrifying characters in Isaac Asimov’s universe, particularly because of his ability to control people’s emotions.
With a reasonable budget ($45 million for season 1, 100 million for 2), Foundation offers, despite faults and questionable narrative choices, an impressive spectacle driven by visual ambition rarely seen in a television series.
The series also features an elegant cast, including Lee Pace (Guardians of the Galaxy) and Jared Harris (The Crown). Season 3 of Foundation does not yet have a release date.
Finally, remember that since April 20, programs from the Apple TV+ streaming platform have been offered at no additional cost to all Canal+ subscribers, from the first subscription level.
