Foundation Season 3: Start

A start date for “Foundation” season 3 has not yet been announced. We assume that the new episodes could appear on Apple TV+ at the end of 2024. Filming is said to have started in May 2023 and will end in early 2024 after a postponement due to the Hollywood strikes.

Foundation Season 3: Trailer

There is no trailer for “Foundation” season 3 yet. We will probably not see the first clips until mid-2024.

Foundation Season 3: Plot

Season 2 ended with tragedy: Salvor died, although in Asimov’s novels she is supposed to die much later at the hands of the mule. A plan by showrunner David S. Goyer to show that no character on the show is safe. The mule also makes an appearance in the season 2 finale. Goyer hints that the Mule is a character much stronger than Tellem and will turn the entire story on its head (via TVLine). A strong opponent for the Foundation in season 3 and probably a possible trigger for the third Seldon crisis.

The Cleon clones Dawn, Day and Dawn no longer sit on the throne of the Galactic Empire. Tag died in space, Twilight was killed by robot lady Demerzel, and Morgen fled with Queen Sareth when Demerzel threatened to execute Sareth for Tag’s assassination attempt.

However, it turns out that Demerzel was behind the attack because she wanted to prevent the wedding between Tag and Sareth because it would have ended the Cleon dynasty. Demerzel’s only job is to protect and preserve the Empire. By eliminating morning, day and twilight, she can easily raise new clones of Cleon to lead the empire from now on.

Since there is another time jump between season 2 and season 3, which is certainly 150 years again, we will certainly see a new generation of clones by then. In addition, Demerzel now has a primary radiant that stores all of psychohistorian Hari Seldon’s knowledge and predicts the future. Demerzel will certainly try to stop Hari, Gaal and the Foundation in their plan to overthrow the Empire.

The survival of the Foundation in Terminus will certainly be an issue in season 3. As will Sareth and Twilight’s unborn child. As the first-born child, he has a claim to the throne of the empire. Due to the time jump, we will probably only get to know the child’s descendants, who are probably fighting for the throne.

From the second “Foundation” novel, “The Mutant”, by Isaac Asimov we learn that the Empire is in a civil war. An aspect that could be adopted for season 3 of the Apple TV+ series.

Hari and Gaal strengthened the Foundation in Season 2 by getting the Mentalists on their side. The spacers are also no longer under the command of the Empire, which can no longer travel through hyperspace.

Foundation Season 3: Cast

In season 3 of “Foundation” we can expect a return, but also new faces. For example, Alexander Siddig was cast for the new episodes. The “Game of Thrones” and “Shantaram” actor will play the role of Dr. Ebling Mis, a self-taught psychohistorian and die-hard fan of Hari Seldon.

We assume that these actors and actresses will be seen again in the new season:

  • Jared Harris as Hari Seldon
  • Lee Pace as Brother Day
  • Lou Llobell as Gaal Dornick
  • Laura Birn as Demerzel
  • Cassian Bilton as Brother Morning
  • Terrence Mann as Brother Twilight

Michael Persbrandt (“Sex Education”), who played The Mule in the second season, will be replaced by “Game of Thrones” star Pilou Asbæk in the upcoming third season.

Also new from season 3 are Cherry Jones (“Succession”) as foundation ambassador Quent, Synnøve Karlsen (“Bodies”) and Cody Fern (“American Horror Story”) as newly married couple Bayta and Toran Mallow, Brandon P. Bell (“Dear White People”) as the mule’s servant Han Pritcher, Tómas Lemarquis (“Blade Runner 2049”) as a former follower of the mule Magnifico Giganticus, Yootha Wong-Loi-Sing (“Santos”) as Song and Leo Bill (“Becoming Elizabeth”) as mayor of Terminus, Indbur.

Foundation Season 3: Production

Showrunner and executive producer David S. Goyer was also supposed to work on Season 3 of “Foundation.” But Goyer steps down from his role as showrunner due to budget conflicts and hands that work over to executive producer Bill Bost. Goyer will still write the script for the new episodes of season 3.

Additional executive producers include Jane Espenson, Leigh Dana Jackson, Roxann Dawson, David Ellison, Dana Goldberg, Matt Thunell and Robyn Asimov. Skydance Television produces the series for Apple.
