Four Hills Tournament – Lanisek wins the New Year’s competition – Swiss without exploit – Sport

  • The Slovenian Anze Lanisek wins the New Year’s competition in Garmisch-Partenkirchen.
  • Remo Imhof is the only Swiss to make it to the final.
  • Gregor Deschwanden and Simon Ammann miss the qualification for the second round.

The big German party in Garmisch-Partenkirchen didn’t take place at the traditional New Year’s competition as part of the Four Hills Tournament. Of the 8 DSV athletes in the final, hopeful Andreas Wellinger got along best with the Olympic ski jump. The winner from Oberstdorf took third place thanks to distances of 138 m and 137.5 m and thus remains leader in the overall ranking (1.8 points ahead of Kobayashi).

The Slovenian Anze Lanisek (136 m/137 m) secured the victory, his first ever on the tour. Lanisek relegated half-time leader Ryoyu Kobayashi (137 m/135.5 m) from Japan to second place by 3.2 points.

Ranks 3 to 6 were all taken by Austrians. 38-year-old Manuel Fettner was ahead of Jan Hörl and World Cup dominator Stefan Kraft.

Imhof at least in the final

Remo Imhof provided the only bright spot from a Swiss perspective. The 20-year-old from Muotathal prevailed in the first duel against the Estonian Artti Aigro thanks to a set on 127 m and made it into the final in 28th place. Imhof was able to improve there (131 m), but he still only finished second to last (29th).

Ammann and Deschwanden out early

Team leader Gregor Deschwanden (34./124.5 m) and Simon Ammann (38./125 m) did not get up to speed. The 42-year-old will not win his 25th Four Hills Tournament either. Killian Peier had already failed in qualifying.

The third competition of the tour is on the program in Innsbruck on Wednesday (1:25 p.m., SRF two).
