Why Freiburg can defeat FC Bayern

In its long club history, SC Freiburg has never won a Bundesliga game at Bayern Munich. Successful coach Christian Streich’s team is traveling to the Allianz Arena this Saturday (3:30 p.m. in the live ticker at ntv.de) with an extremely meager record of zero wins, three draws and 18 defeats. But the chances of a first three at Bayern are better than ever. ntv.de gives four reasons why SC Freiburg does not have to hide from the record champions.
The historic start of SC Freiburg: SC Freiburg has made a historically good start in the Bundesliga. The sports club has never made such a start before. The reward they deserve: After ten match days, Freiburg are the only undefeated team in the league and, as third in the table, are just three points behind FC Bayern. So on Saturday there will be a novelty, because for the first time both clubs are facing a direct clash in the top three.
“We have an initial situation that nobody could have expected,” said Freiburg’s captain Christian Günter of the German press agency: “You might be able to go to the top game in Munich as SC Freiburg after the third match day. But after ten match days it was like that, I never think so. ” The sports club has so far been convincing as a collective and primarily comes from the strong team structure. This is one of the reasons why the surprise team should enter the game aggressively. “We have a lot of fun annoying the big guys,” announced defender Philipp Lienhart at “transfermarkt.de”. Coach Christian Streich added: “We want to stand up to them. Even if our forehead is perhaps only half the size of your Bavarian one. But our forehead should also be hard and strong.” Outstanding respect and awe sound different.
Bayern’s shaky defense: While the SC has the best defense in the Bundesliga with only seven goals conceded, the back team of FC Bayern has been extremely vulnerable in recent weeks. In the last three competitive games, Munich conceded a total of nine goals. In addition, FC Bayern only kept zero three times in the past nine games. “We allow too many chances in many games,” said Munich head coach Julian Nagelsmann recently: “I think that there are similar patterns in all games when we get chances against us.” In the latest Champions League duel with SL Benfica (5: 2), Nagelsmann’s protégés did not act flawlessly again. If FC Bayern can’t solve their problems, they face the next goals against SC Freiburg.
The “Bayern specialist” Lucas Höler: With Lucas Höler, the sports club has a real “Bayern specialist” in its own ranks. In his active career, the 27-year-old scored three goals against FC Bayern. The attacker only scored more often against Holstein Kiel (4). Höler also has a fixed goal. “Bayern are the only Bundesliga opponent I haven’t won against. I definitely don’t want to stop playing football and have to say that I never won against Bayern. Thanks to his constant performances, Flekken has now made it into the circle of the Dutch national team. “He’s a real van Gaal keeper,” enthused Bondscoach Louis van Gaal recently from the Freiburg goalkeeper: “He’s incredibly good with his feet, it’s hard to imagine.” But that’s not all: “Freiburg’s defense is well coordinated. In my opinion, the goalkeeper is the boss,” continued van Gaal.
A look back at Munich’s only defeat in the current Bundesliga season against Eintracht Frankfurt shows that a win against FC Bayern usually requires a strong goalkeeping performance. There SGE keeper Kevin Trapp caught a creamy day in Frankfurt’s 2-1 victory and drove the otherwise outstanding offensive department of FC Bayern to despair.
