Four weddings and one death: What are the stars of the 90s classic doing today?

The whole of "Four Weddings and a Death" (original title: "Four Weddings and a Funeral") later the Brit Charles (Hugh Grant) found his love bliss in the American Carrie (Andie MacDowell). In search of the right one, his friends are always at his side: Fiona (Kristin Scott Thomas), Gareth (Simon Callow), Matthew (John Hannah) and Tom (James Fleet). What are the stars doing from the 1994 British comedy of success today?

Hugh Grant and Andie MacDowell

For Hugh Grant (59) alias Charles, the comedy meant an international breakthrough. His portrayal of the eternal bachelor with the straggled facial expression fighting for his great love Carrie melted women's hearts worldwide. Grant then became a guarantor of successful romantic comedies such as "Notting Hill" (1999), "Bridget Jones – Chocolate for Breakfast" (2001), "A Chef to Fall in Love" (2002) and "Actually … Love" (2003). In 2016 he convinced in the biopic "Florence Foster Jenkins", in which he embodied the husband and manager of the title-giving amateur singer (Meryl Streep). Most recently, Grant was seen in Guy Ritchie's action comedy "The Gentleman" (2019) alongside Matthew McConaughey (50) and Charlie Hunnam (39). Grant has been married since 2018 and has five children from two women.

Andie MacDowell (61) aka Carrie rolled Charles's head. The actress previously landed a success with "And every day the marmot greets" (1993). After "four weddings and one death", numerous other films and TV appearances followed, although the great success failed to materialize. Most recently, MacDowell was seen in the horror comedy "Ready or Not – Auf die Squares, finished, dead" (2019), in which she played a mixture of mother-in-law and angel of death. The actress made a name for herself as a model, more precisely as the face of the cosmetic giant "L'Oreal". With her ex-husband Paul Qualley, she has three children: Sarah (25), Justin (34) and Rainey (30). In the series "Four Weddings and One Death" MacDowell has a cameo.

Kristin Scott Thomas, James Fleet and Charlotte Coleman

She had been in love with her good friend Charles for years, but he fell in love with another one: Kristin Scott Thomas (59) played the unapproachable Fiona. After the romantic comedy, the British-French actress shot "The English Patient" (1996) and was nominated for Best Supporting Actress for an Oscar. She also made a name for herself with "The Horse Whisperer" (1998), "The Queen's Sister" (2008) or most recently "Mrs. Taylor's Singing Club" (2020). Scott Thomas was married until 2005 and has three children.

Fiona's brother Tom was portrayed by James Fleet (68). Fleet again met his colleague Hugh Grant in "Sinn und Sinnlichkeit" (1995), followed by smaller appearances in TV series such as "Being Human" (2011) or "Outlander" (2014). Fleet is married to his fellow actor Jane Booker (63). Charlotte Coleman (1968-2001) mimicked Scarlett, known for her red hair and striking robes. Her last major role was in Jasmin Dizdar's "Beautiful People" (1999). The British woman died in 2001 at the age of 33 as a result of an acute asthma attack.

Simon Callow and John Hannah

Gareth caused the most tragic moment in the film: during Carrie's wedding in Scotland, he died unexpectedly from a heart attack. The gay man was played by Simon Callow (70), who was nominated for his role for the BAFTA Award. He later appeared in "Shakespeare in Love" (1998) or "Victoria & Abdul" (2017) as well as in the TV series "Outlander". He has also made a name for himself as a theater director and writer. In 2016 Callow married his partner Sebastian Fox.

John Hannah (57) played Matthew, Gareth's longtime lover. He was followed by roles in "The Mummy" (1999) and the two sequels, "The Thief of Words" (2012) and the television series "Spartacus" (2010). In season three and four of "Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D." he also played Holden Radcliffe. Hannah has been married since 1996 and has two children.

Anna Chancellor and Rowan Atkinson

Without these supporting roles, "Four weddings and one death" would only be half as amusing: Anna Chancellor (54) embodied Henrietta, who Fiona always calls "Duckface". Because of the love for Carrie, Charles gave her a removal in front of the altar, and she returned the favor in one fell swoop. Chancellor was then seen in numerous films such as "What girls want" (2003) or "The Happy Prince" (2018). She also got roles in numerous series, such as "Downton Abbey", "The Crown" and "Pennyworth".

"Locking" instead of "closing" and "avarice" instead of "ghost": Rowan Atkinson (65) embodied father Gerald, who caused laughter among the wedding guests when the film was married for the second time. Atkinson was no stranger at the time of the film, the actor had his star role in 1989 as "Mr. Bean" in the series of the same name. This was followed by two films: "Bean – The Ultimate Disaster Film" (1997) and "Mr. Bean goes on vacation" (2007). He also delighted cinema-goers with the "Johnny English" film series. Atkinson has been dating actress Louise Ford since 2014. Daughter Isla was born in 2017.
