PARIS (Reuters) – France and Italy have finalized their discussions on the delivery to Ukraine of an anti-missile defense system, the Ministry of the Armed Forces announced in a press release on Friday.

The French Minister for the Armed Forces, Sébastien Lecornu, and his Italian counterpart, Guido Crosetto, agreed during a telephone call to deliver the SAMP / T – MAMBA anti-aircraft defense system to Ukraine in the spring of 2023, specifies the Ministry for the Armed Forces .

“This is the first long-range European anti-missile system, of Franco-Italian design. It will allow Ukraine to defend itself against attacks by drones, missiles and Russian planes, by covering a significant part territory of Ukraine,” the ministry explained.

“The delivery of this system complements the support already provided by France and Italy in air defense and other segments.”

Ukraine also bought on Wednesday a GM200 radar, manufactured by Thales, an acquisition financed by France as part of the support fund of 200 million euros.
