Business insolvencies in France increased slightly year on year in May, while remaining at a lower level of 37.2% compared to 2019, before the health crisis, the Banque de France reported on Monday. During the 12-month period ending at the end of May 2022, 32,109 companies declared insolvency, which is 9.2% more than during the previous 12 months.

In May as in April, the rebound in insolvencies mainly affected very small businesses (TPE), with an increase of 29.2% over one year. By sector, the increase is most marked for transport and warehousing (+23.2%), a set which includes home delivery services, which had experienced spectacular development during the periods of confinement.
Insolvencies in industry and commerce also experienced marked rebounds, with increases of 15.4% and 14.3% respectively, while the rise in the construction sector amounted to 12.9%.
