Through the voice of Jean-Yves Le Drian, France condemned Monday “with the greatest firmness” the attacks claimed by the Yemeni rebels pro-Iranian Houthis against the international airport of Abu Dhabi and the nearby industrial zone. The Minister of Foreign Affairs considered that these attacks threatened “the stability of the region”.

France on Monday condemned “in the strongest terms” the attacks claimed by pro-Iranian Houthi Yemeni rebels against Abu Dhabi International Airport and the nearby industrial zone. “These attacks threaten the security of the territory of the United Arab Emirates and the stability of the region. France expresses its support for the United Arab Emirates in the face of these attacks,” said the head of French diplomacy Jean-Yves Le Drian in a statement. .

Le Drian calls on the Houthis to stop their actions

The minister reiterated his call on the Houthis to “immediately put an end to their destabilizing actions in Yemen and in the region and to engage constructively in a political process to end the crisis” in this country. “France reaffirms its mobilization in favor of a cessation of hostilities throughout the country and a relaunch of discussions with a view to a global political agreement under the aegis of the United Nations”, he added. Houthi rebels claimed responsibility for the attack in which three people were killed when fuel tankers exploded.

The Emirates, members of a military coalition under Saudi command which has been intervening in Yemen since 2015 to support government forces against the Houthis, threatened to “retaliate”. The conflict in Yemen, which has killed 377,000 people, has intensified in recent weeks with an increase in raids by the military coalition and ground offensives by government forces.

The President of the Republic, Emmanuel Macron, also “strongly” condemned the attack by the Yemeni rebels in the Emirates, according to the Élysée.
