France: growth in private sector activity slowed in January


PARIS (Agefi-Dow Jones)–Growth in private sector activity in France slowed in January, according to provisional data released Monday by IHS Markit.

France’s composite PMI fell to 52.7 in January, its lowest level in nine months, from 55.8 in December.

A figure above 50 indicates an expansion in activity compared to the previous month, while a figure below 50 indicates a decline.

In detail, the PMI index for the services sector fell to 53.1 in January, its lowest level for nine months, against 57 in December. The manufacturing PMI fell to 55.5, its lowest level in three months, from 55.6 in December.

Economists polled by Dow Jones Newswires had expected a services index of 55.5 and a manufacturing sector index of 55 in January.
