France had been preparing for the reduction in Russian gas flows, says Pannier-Runacher

Aug 31 (Reuters) – French Energy Transition Minister Agnes Pannier-Runacher said France had prepared for the scenario of a further cut in Russian gas supplies, after Russian energy giant Gazprom reported Tuesday that it was completely suspending its deliveries to Engie.

“Russia uses gas as a weapon of war and takes the pretext of the application of contracts by Engie to further reduce French supplies which had already drastically decreased,” she said in a statement.

“France has been preparing for this scenario since the spring: the filling of gas stocks will reach its maximum in about two weeks,” she assured. “We have diversified our imports so that we are only 9% dependent on Russian gas (against 17% before the war)”.
