France: household confidence improved in December

PARIS (Agefi-Dow Jones) – French household confidence increased by 2 points in December compared to November, according to the business survey of the National Institute of Statistics and Economic Studies (Insee) published on Wednesday.

The synthetic indicator of household confidence stood at 100 in December, after 98 in November, thus returning to the level of its long-term average.

In December, the share of households who believe that the standard of living in France will improve over the next 12 months increased, the corresponding balance gaining 2 points, to -29, while remaining below its long-term average, the institute said.

Meanwhile, the share of households who consider prices to have increased over the past 12 months has risen again, with the corresponding balance gaining 3 points to 26, its highest level since April 2012.

“Conversely, the share of households believing that prices will increase over the next 12 months continues to decrease,” said INSEE. The corresponding balance lost 1 point, to -8, but “remains well above its long-term average,” said the institute.
