France: household consumption is stable in August


(CercleFinance.com) – Household consumption of goods in volume terms was stable in August 2022 according to INSEE (+0.0% after -0.9% in July 2022 – revised data).

The increase in expenditure on engineered goods (+1.2%) was offset by the fall in food purchases (−1.0%) and, to a lesser extent, by the decline in energy consumption (−0.4 %) indicates INSEE.

Energy consumption fell again in August (−0.4%, as in July). Fuel consumption fell again (−0.4% after −1.1%). Consumption of ‘energy, water and waste’ fell back (−0.4% after +0.1%), with a fall in consumption of electricity and, to a lesser extent, gas.
