France: Household consumption stable in August


(Reuters) – Household consumption expenditure on goods in France was stable in August, according to data published on Friday by INSEE.

Household consumption of goods in volume terms stood at 0.0%, after -0.9% (revised down) in July, the data showed. Economists polled by Reuters on average expected a decline of 0.1% in August.

This recovery in consumption from one month to the next is driven by the rebound in consumption of manufactured goods (+1.2%), spending on clothing-textiles (2.4% after -4.9% previously ), as well as the increase in purchases of durable goods (+1.3%).

Conversely, food and energy consumption fell compared to the previous month, at -1.0% and -0.4% respectively.
