Household consumption of goods in volume terms stood at 0.0%, after -0.9% (revised down) in July, the data showed. Economists polled by Reuters on average expected a decline of 0.1% in August.

Conversely, food and energy consumption fell compared to the previous month, at -1.0% and -0.4% respectively.
