FranceConnect welcomes France Identity within it, which should make the experience more fluid and strengthen the security of the platform.
The France Identity application integrates the ecosystem of the FranceConnect platform from this Monday, November 21, 2022, announces the government.
Enhanced security
Thanks to this, users no longer need a username and password to authenticate on FranceConnect. It is now the registered identity card and the 6-digit personal code that are useful. This change not only improves the ergonomics of the service, but also its security.
The system enables two-factor authentication, ID card and 2FA security code by default. The personal code is required for each identity verification, and after three unsuccessful login attempts, the card is blocked. A new identity verification is then mandatory to unlock it.
The absence of an identifier limits the risks of hacking and phishing attacks, specifies the government.
Biometric authentication is coming later
The executive detailed the steps for authenticating to FranceConnect:
- Click on the FranceConnect button and choose the option “Connect using my identity card”;
- Scan a QR Code from your France Identity mobile application and consent to the sending of your personal information. If the connection takes place from your mobile, you just have to click on “Open the application”;
- Enter your personal code and read your contactless identity card.
To provide identity data to FranceConnect, France Identity uses OpenID Connect authentication. When the personal code entered coincides with that linked to the title, then the transfer is authorised.
It is specified that the service is still in beta version and that improvements will be deployed in the future to make navigation between FranceConnect and France Identity more fluid. Support for biometrics is notably planned on smartphones, which will significantly simplify identity verification. Users will have the choice of using this method or continuing to enter their identity card and personal code each time.
