PARIS (Reuters) – Emmanuel Macron announced on Tuesday the launch of a “flash mission” to allow “from this summer” to consolidate emergency hospital services, for some threatened with closure for lack of means.
Traveling to the Cherbourg hospital center in the company of his Minister of Health, Brigitte Bourguignon, the President of the Republic said he wanted “more broadly” to initiate a “real collective revolution” in the health system in France, by giving it ” much more flexibility” at the local level through “contractualization” between its various actors in each living area.
The four-week “flash mission” on emergencies was entrusted to Doctor François Braun, president of Samu-Urgences de France.
Its objective is to “be able, on July 1 at the latest, to submit to the Minister a work which will be intended to explain territory by territory where the shortcomings are, to be able to quantify them and to also be able to illustrate the first ways to respond to these problems ” quick access to a doctor, whether in the emergency room or in city medicine, said Emmanuel Macron.
It is a question of “being able to provide very strong responses this summer, in order to be able to consolidate our emergencies in this period”, he added.
Beyond this specific problem, Emmanuel Macron said he wanted to obtain “a mapping at the beginning of the summer which is complete” of the difficulties in hospitals.
“On this basis we will then launch national work (…) (take) structuring decisions (…) and this from the end of the summer will be declined in each territory (…) in level of a living area”, said the President of the Republic.
“We have to simplify the system, trust the field again and allow us to build solutions on which we will contractualize and accept that we have a national objective (…) but we will (it) decline locally and therefore contractualize and give a lot more flexibility”, insisted Emmanuel Macron, while acknowledging that “in the coming decade, we will never have a perfect solution”.
