PARIS (Reuters) – Emmanuel Macron has offered to appoint his former Prime Minister Jean Castex to the post of CEO of the RATP, the Presidency of the Republic announced in a press release on Wednesday.

“The President of the Republic plans (…) to appoint Mr. Jean Castex as Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the Autonomous Paris Transport Authority,” indicates the Elysée.

Valérie Pécresse, the president of the Île-de-France region, had welcomed this appointment a little earlier in the day.

“Happy to see Jean Castex take over the reins of the RATP group at such a crucial moment”, wrote on Twitter Valérie Pécresse, who also chairs Île-de-France Mobilités, the body responsible for organizing public transport in the region.

If his appointment is validated by the competent committees of the National Assembly and the Senate, the former head of government will succeed Catherine Guillouard, who resigned last month for personal reasons.

Jean Castex was appointed in mid-August as chairman of the board of directors of the French infrastructure financing agency (Afit).
