France: Manufacturing PMI at lowest since May 2020

(CercleFinance.com) – The HCOB PMI index for the French manufacturing industry, produced by S&P Global, fell from 42.9 in November to 42.1 in December 2023, its lowest level since May 2020, thus signaling a sharp deterioration in the sector’s economic situation.

The December survey once again signals a very sharp drop in new orders received by French manufacturers, a trend which they explain by the deterioration of the economy in markets such as construction, automobiles and aeronautics.

This new marked decline in demand resulted in a nineteenth consecutive monthly decline in production levels and nearly a third of respondents anticipate a decline in its levels over the next twelve months.
