France/PMI: Services activity contracts less than expected in October

PARIS, October 24 (Reuters) – The contraction in private sector activity in France was less severe than expected in October, shows the S&P Global economic survey published on Tuesday.

The “flash” PMI HCOB purchasing managers index came out at 46.1, after 44.4 in September and a consensus of 44.6.

The threshold of 50 separates a contraction from growth in private sector activity.

For its part, the manufacturing sector continued to sink with a “flash” PMI index at 42.6 in October, at a 41-month low, after 44.2 in September and a consensus at 44.4.

The composite “flash” PMI index, which includes services and the manufacturing sector, stood at 45.3 after 44.1 in September and a consensus of 44.4.
