PARIS (Reuters) – Former President Nicolas Sarkozy invites Emmanuel Macron to cross the ideological “Rubicon” in a France that he considers to be predominantly on the right.
Praising the “coldness”, “restraint” and “experience” of the Head of State, whom he supported during the presidential campaign, Nicolas Sarkozy said he hoped, in Le Journal du Dimanche, “that the matrix the president’s policy is closer to the matrix of the country as I feel it”.
“I observe that it can sometimes be tempted to stop in the middle of the ford. These are the disadvantages of ‘at the same time'”, he notes.
“I’ve never been on the left. And it’s not insulting anyone to remember that President Macron comes from the left. Sometimes I would like him to cross the Rubicon more frankly, because France is today mainly on the side of the party of authority, firmness, freedom”, declares Nicolas Sarkozy.
“Call it centre-right, centre, republican right, whatever? The country’s strategic axis is clearly there.”
