“France-Soir” regains, at least temporarily, its online press approval

The urgent applications judge of the Paris administrative court suspended, on Friday January 13, the decision of the Joint Commission for Publications and Press Agencies (CPPAP) not to renew the online press license of France-Evening. The independent body responsible for awarding this certificate giving rise to certain aid had withdrawn its approval from the website on December 5, 2022, considering that the latter lacked the “character of general interest as regards the dissemination of thought”a requirement for any online news service.

This suspension must run until the Council of State rules on the merits, let it be known the press release of the administrative court. In the meantime, the latter is ordering the CPPAP to restore the aid scheme which the press title benefited from before the decision of 30 November.

The judge in chambers, seized in particular by the lawyers of Shopper Union France, the company operating the website of France-Eveningconsidered that “the CPPAP would not have ruled with complete impartiality”and that this is proper to create “a serious doubt about the legality of the decision”.

Without naming Laurence Franceschini, the president of the commission, the order notes that a member of the organization would have spoken publicly and prior to the decision, within the framework of the work carried out by the Bronner commission.

“By virtue of the principles of impartiality of the court and of administrative impartiality which come together, Ms.me Franceschini should have withdrawn from the case relating to the renewal of our registration”defended, late Friday morning, the former generalist daily invigorated by the health crisis, in particular by relaying all the critical and conspiratorial speeches inspired by the crisis due to the coronavirus.

After learning of the decision of the administrative court, the director of publication, Xavier Azalbert, said to himself “Satisfied by this binding decision for the media”. “This highlights the fact that the latter did not question the proportionality and correctness of the CPPAP’s decision”he wants to believe.
