France-Stability of household consumption in February over one month – 03/29/2024 at 08:45

Household consumption expenditure on goods in France remained stable in February over one month, according to data published Friday by INSEE.

The indicator stood at 0.0% after -0.6% in January (revised data), the data showed.

Economists polled by Reuters had on average expected an increase of 0.2% in February.

This stability is explained by a slight increase in consumption of food (+0.8%) and manufactured goods (+0.5%), which offset the 2.7% drop in energy consumption.

Over one year, consumer spending fell by 0.8%, with notably a reduction in food (-2.1%) and energy (-1.7%) consumption.
