PARIS (Reuters) – The Autorité de la concurrence announced on Tuesday that it had imposed a fine of around 81 million euros on Essilor international, owned by Essilorluxottica, for “discriminatory commercial practices aimed at hindering the development in France, of the online sale of corrective lenses”.

EssilorLuxottica is sanctioned “jointly and severally” to the tune of 15.4 million euros, added the authority in a press release.

The optical lens manufacturer challenges the decision of the Competition Authority, saying it is “confident in its ability to prove that the Authority’s decision is unfounded”.

“EssilorLuxottica firmly believes in the legality of its practices and the merits of marketing certain segments of corrective lenses under conditions that guarantee consumers the best visual correction necessary to meet their personal needs,” the group said in a press release. .
