PARIS, June 27 (Reuters) – French Economy and Finance Minister Bruno Le Maire said on Monday he intended to ask TotalEnergies to make a new effort on fuel prices.

As the government gradually unveils its measures in favor of the purchasing power of the French, the effort must be “equitably distributed”, underlined Bruno Le Maire on BFMTV.

In the “fight against inflation, all the effort cannot rest solely on the State and on public spending, companies must also make an effort”, he underlined, recalling that TotalEnergies had already granted a discount of 10 euro cents on the price of a liter of fuel in addition to the discount of 18 euro cents financed by the State.

“I hope that Total will continue its effort and why not increase it,” said the minister, who spoke with Patrick Pouyanné, CEO of TotalEnergies, early in the morning.

During this interview, Bruno Le Maire asked “the extension of the discount of 10 cents per liter of fuel and also to make an extra effort”, we confirmed later at Bercy.

“Total shares the idea that companies must play their full part in this fight against inflation. They must work on it to make the best possible offer in the days to come,” it added.
