Oct 7 (Reuters) – France’s trade deficit continues to widen and stood at 15.301 billion euros at the end of August, according to data released by the French customs office on Friday.

This downward trend is driven by the deterioration of the energy balance in a context of rising energy prices, the bureau said in a press release.

Analysts polled by Reuters had on average expected a deficit of 14.83 billion euros.

At the end of July, the deficit amounted to 14.786 billion euros (revised). (Written by Elena Vardon, Michal Aleksandrowicz and Lina Golovnya, Editing by Kate Entringer)
