After the French department of Moselle was classified as a virus variant area, new rules for crossing borders now apply.

If you want to enter Germany from the French department of Moselle, you have to pay attention to a few things since Tuesday. The region has been classified as a virus variant area. The Saarland and Rhineland-Palatinate are affected. Only German citizens and foreigners living in Germany with a place of residence and a residence permit are allowed to enter the country.

People older than six years must be able to show a negative corona test. This must not be more than 48 hours ago, but it can be both a rapid test and a PCR test. This also applies expressly to commuters. They can enter and leave the country on one day with the same proof. The proof must be available in German, English or French, electronically or on paper. It should also be kept for at least ten days after entry. Commuters must also fill out the federal government's digital entry form before crossing the border.

The ban on carriage comes into force

There will also be a transport ban for airlines, bus, ship and train companies in the future, which means that cross-border local public transport will be discontinued. Random checks are carried out at control points throughout the border area.
