PARIS (Reuters) – Météo France placed twenty departments on orange alert at 10 a.m. on Sunday for the risk of violent storms, compared to 18 at the very beginning of the morning.

The departments concerned range from the Massif Central to the Grand Est, specifies the institute of meteorology on its website.

“During the afternoon, storm cells will develop in the departments in orange vigilance”, indicates Météo France.

“Where thunderstorms form, the conditions are met for them to give rise to intense phenomena justifying the passage into orange vigilance”, continues the institute. “These storms are likely to be accompanied by violent gusts of wind that can exceed 100 km / h, large hail and high intensities of precipitation.”

Météo France adds that the risk of severe thunderstorms will disappear overnight from Sunday to Monday.
