Franck Dubosc: Rumba la vie, his new tender and dancing comedy, arrives at the cinema

After Everyone Upright, discover the new comedy written and directed by Franck Dubosc, Rumba la vie. He plays the main role there alongside Louna Espinosa, seen in particular in the series Les Bracelets rouges on TF1. Our video interview.

Tony, in his fifties, a school bus driver withdrawn, lives alone after having abandoned his wife and child twenty years earlier. Shaken by a heart attack, he finds the courage to face his past and enroll incognito in the dance class led by his daughter, whom he has never known, with the aim of (re)conquering her and give meaning to his life.

This is the pitch for Rumba la vie, a new feature film written and directed by Frank Dubosc, 4 years later Everybody up. As in this previous feature film, there is a mixture of tenderness and humor, as explained in our interview above, this time against a background of ballroom dancing.

I like [l’]elegance [de la danse de salon] and the fact that it is still danced in pairs. I was inspired by the color and the mood found there and the reaction it provokes: a desire to laugh and then to love.” And to add: “Above all, I didn’t want Rumba la vie to be a dance film, a clip or even a demonstration (…) The challenge was to use the place to take a greater interest in the characters, behind the scenes, in the passion that this can generate and especially to the father-daughter relationship that was going to be played.”

To play the main female role, Franck Dubosc called on Louna Espinosa, a young actress seen in particular in the series Les Bracelets rouges. She began to walk on film sets at the age of 16. After quite intense and physical roles (La loi de Pauline, Beyond Appearances, Dunk…), no less than 3 feature films for the young actress: she was on the poster for Des feus dans la nuit by Dominique Lienhard at the start of August, and we will soon be able to see her in Canailles by Christophe Offenstein (in September). Rumba la vie is his first leading film role.

Previewed out of competition at the Alpe d’Huez Comedy Festival, Rumba la vie had seen its release postponed due to the Omicron variant. Initially scheduled for a cinema release on January 19, the film arrives in cinemas this Wednesday, August 24.
