This can be quoted as follows in the city club’s press release: “After the good talks with the Canepa family and sports director Marinko Jurendic, I immediately had a great feeling. I’m really looking forward to the new task and we want to start another successful chapter with FC Zurich and develop the team further.”

The 56-year-old Foda coached the Austrian national team until the spring of this year, which he took over as successor to Marcel Koller in autumn 2017. With her, he qualified for the EM 2021, where Austria failed in the round of 16 at eventual European champions Italy in extra time. Austria lost to Wales in the play-offs for the World Cup in Qatar in March.

Even before joining the association, Foda was mainly active in Austria. In 2011 he led Sturm Graz to the championship title. After a short detour to 1. FC Kaiserslautern, he returned to Graz in 2014. As a player, Foda was under contract with Kaiserslautern, Bayer Leverkusen and Stuttgart, among others. In the spring of 1997, the former defender also played a few games for FC Basel.
