Franco-German relations: Scholz-Borne meeting in Berlin “in November”

LE FIGARO INFO – The Prime Minister must go across the Rhine, while relations between Paris and Berlin have cooled.

Prime Minister Elisabeth Borne plans to meet German Chancellor Olaf Scholz in Berlin “in November”says a senior executive in the Figaro. “It is being reprogrammed”, we insist at the top of the state, while the chancellor and the head of government were initially to meet in Berlin on September 29 on the occasion of what was to be the first international trip of Elisabeth Borne. Positive for Covid-19, Olaf Scholz had been forced to cancel the meeting, which was then to be transformed into a videoconference. Which had also been canceled at the last minute, officially because the Chancellor was unwell – although he had appeared on television that evening.

The meeting between the two heads of government takes place in a context where the relationship between Paris and Berlin appears to be altered. A Franco-German council of ministers which was to be held on October 26 in Fontainebleau (Seine-et-Marne) has been canceled
