François Alu: this immense honor granted to the juror of Dancing with the stars

A dancer at the Paris Opera since 2010, François Alu received the supreme distinction. This Saturday, April 23, the Dancing with the Stars juror was named star dancer.

For François Alu, it is the supreme title! This Saturday, April 23, the dancer was named star of the Paris Opera. In keeping with tradition in this institution, the director of the Opera, Alexander Neef, accompanied by Aurélie Dupont, the director of dance, went up on stage to announce the good news. Facing the public who came to admire a performance of La Bayadère organized as part of the event “My first time at the Opera”, he announced the appointment of François Alu. “I invite you to attend an exceptional and emotional moment in the life of our theatre, did he declare. On the proposal of Aurélie Dupont, dance director, I have the great pleasure of appointing Mr. François Alu star dancer.”

“It’s stellar!, he reacted to AFP behind the scenes of the Opéra Bastille where he played the first male role in this ballet by Rudolf Nureyev. I don’t realize, I think I should put my ideas back in place a bit; there’s a lot of mixed emotions.” For the Dancing with the Stars juror, it is therefore a consecration that few dancers know. After joining the Paris Opera Ballet in 2010, he became its principal dancer four years later. Born in 1993, the son of a dance teacher, François Alu became interested in classical dance when he was nine years old, impressed by the talent of Patrick Dupond. “I said to myself: ‘I want to be that person, I want to experience the same thing as him’, he confided to French Culture. Beyond the artist, I said to myself: ‘this is a dream life’.”

François Alu: “It makes me feel alive”

“I think being able to play, tell stories, be in the narration and at the same time be able to express it with your whole body and in moments of difficulty like jumps, pirouettes, etc. it exacerbates the adrenaline and it makes me feel alive”he continued. A surprising and marginal dancer, François Alu decided last September to take a six-month leave to integrate the Dancing with the Stars jury but also performing his first solo performance. “It’s a real physical challenge for me. I think it’s the most difficult show I’ve ever done, because in addition to the dances, I interpret twelve characters, he confided to TVMagazine. At the beginning, they have nothing to do with each other but as the show progresses, they come to respond to each other and this comes to form a kind of portrait. In fact, it’s a show about identity.”
