The president of MoDem, François Bayrou, who resoundingly refused to enter the Attal government, assured Thursday that his party remained a “full member” of the majority “to rebuild the country” and suggested that he would be a candidate in 2027. “We are full members of the majority which wants to rebuild the country”, declared the mayor of Pau on franceinfo, estimating that “the country needs more political understanding of what is happening at the base and less managerial technocracy”.

“I have never renounced any of the duties that are mine,” added the historic ally of Emmanuel Macron, very critical of his new Prime Minister and his government, judging that “the challenge of 2027 is is precisely that we manage to reconcile France which fights at the bottom with France which decides at the top.

Asked about the argument of a lack of “deep agreement” that he put forward to AFP on Wednesday to justify his refusal to participate in the Attal government, François Bayrou insisted on the fact that he was talking about “the educational policy.
Saying he disagreed with “the background music” according to which “teachers do not work enough”, he said that National Education could not “recover in a managerial climate”. Does his disagreement apply to the entire policy pursued? “I hope not,” he said.
