François Hollande “calls on the French to vote for Emmanuel Macron” in the second round

Former President François Hollande called on Thursday “the French to vote for Emmanuel Macron” in the second round of the presidential election on April 24, in the name of “France’s cohesion” and its “European future”. “The main thing is France and its cohesion” and “its European future” while the RN candidate Marine Le Pen “would question our principles” and “our values”, declared the former socialist leader, guest at 8 p.m. on TF1.

“Le Pen considers that Putin is a possible ally”, judge Hollande

According to the former head of state, in power from 2012 to 2017, Marine Le Pen “plans to change a quarter of the French Constitution” on issues of “nationality, discrimination” and “identity”. At the European level, “everything it proposes would be an opportunity for our partners to say ‘you have to get out'” of the European Union, with “consequences for the euro”, he added.

François Hollande finally judges that the election of the far-right candidate would call into question “the system of alliances” of France “in NATO” and the “very strong link with our partners”. “Marine Le Pen considers that Vladimir Putin’s Russia, the one who is massacring at the moment in Ukraine, is a possible ally”, he denounced.

Mélenchon’s speech “insufficient”

In an allusion to the rebellious Jean-Luc Mélenchon, François Hollande felt that “simply saying ‘not a single voice for Marine Le Pen’ is insufficient”. “Whatever the reluctance, anger and reservations that many may have, it is the Macron vote that allows Marine Le Pen not to win,” he insisted.

For the left-wing electorate, “gestures (from outgoing President Emmanuel Macron) are expected. The first is an attitude, behavior, a sense of dialogue, appeasement, consideration”, added demanded the former president. “And then on the question of retirement, of knowing that there is no project that is tied up in advance, that there will be the meeting with the social partners, (a) consultation of the living forces, the citizens if necessary”, he further pleaded.

Emmanuel Macron was Deputy Secretary General of the Elysée then Minister of the Economy during François Hollande’s five-year term. He had slammed the door of the government at the end of August 2016 to embark on the presidential adventure of 2017. Since then, François Hollande has often criticized his policy. Tuesday, another former president, Nicolas Sarkozy, had called to vote Emmanuel Macron, according to him “the only one in a position to act”
