Point : You are telling us of improved purchasing power, full employment, a reindustrialised France, when the situation has rarely been more depressing: war in Europe, energy crisis, lower standard of living… In what dream did you get lost? ?

Francois Lenglet: It all depends on the time horizon we are talking about, of course! The short-term situation is quite dark, I do not deny it. But the thesis of this book is that we are at the end of a period of great transition that began fifteen years ago, as happens once every century. The last time was at the beginning of the XX^e, marked by the end of the domination of England and a phase of globalisation. The great transformation that we are experiencing today results in the inversion of dominant values…
