Essayist and financier, François Xavier Oliveau analyzes the Ukrainian crisis and the economic situation.
LE FIGARO. – You posted last year The Abundance Crisis, which describes the historical evolution of humanity towards a world of abundance. In view of the events in Ukraine, do you think that is still true?
François-Xavier OLIVEAU. – Yes. I find it hard to see this war as a necessity “return of tragedy” which would take us back to an era of conflict. Rather, it seems more like an abominable anomaly of history, the hideous and anachronistic resurgence of an age of scarcity where enrichment was by conquest. Its absurdity is patent. It only makes losers: the Ukrainian people above all, but also the Russians who see their purchasing power collapsing, and ourselves who have to pay much more for our energy.

So this crisis does not contradict the trajectory of abundance that you describe?
