Frank-Walter Steinmeier: The Federal President has gone into quarantine

Federal President Frank-Walter Steinmeier is in quarantine. One of his bodyguards had tested positive for the corona virus.

Federal President Frank-Walter Steinmeier (64) has gone into corona quarantine as a precaution. This has been confirmed by a spokeswoman for the Office of the Federal President, as reported by the "Tagesschau" among others. According to this, a Steinmeier bodyguard had previously tested positive for the virus. Steinmeier also had himself tested, but the result is still pending.

Merkel was also already in quarantine

Most recently, Ursula von der Leyen (62), President of the European Union, self-isolated. "I have just been informed that a member of my reception office has tested positive for Covid-19 this morning," she wrote on Twitter. Her test was negative, but she had left the EU summit as a precaution. The German Minister of Economic Affairs Peter Altmaier (62) and Foreign Minister Heiko Maas (54) went into quarantine in September because they were in contact with infected people.

Chancellor Angela Merkel (66) also had to go into quarantine for almost two weeks a few months ago after coming into contact with a doctor who discovered the virus shortly afterwards. A total of three tests at Merkel were then negative. She had carried on the affairs of state from home.
