In the midst of the controversy surrounding the AstraZeneca vaccine, Federal President Frank-Walter Steinmeier set an example and was vaccinated with it.

Federal President Steinmeier (65) was vaccinated against the coronavirus with the recently controversial vaccine AstraZeneca. A photo that shows him being vaccinated on Thursday in the Bundeswehr hospital in Berlin was on his Instagram page published: “I trust the vaccines approved in Germany. Today I received my first vaccination with AstraZeneca. Vaccination is the decisive step on the way out of the pandemic. Take advantage of the opportunities! Take part!”, comments the head of state of the Federal Republic of Germany .

As a further explanation, the post says: “The vaccine has been released in many places for people over 60 years of age since this week. The Federal President would like to encourage people in Germany to take advantage of vaccination offers from their doctor or at the vaccination center as soon as it is their turn The faster as many people as possible take up their vaccination offers, the faster the virus is defeated. ”

Frank-Walter Steinmeier had always emphasized that he only wanted to be vaccinated when it was his turn. After the federal and state governments followed the recommendation of the Standing Vaccination Commission (Stiko) on Tuesday evening, according to which the AstraZeneca vaccine should generally only be used in people over the age of 60, Steinmeier moved up the prioritization.
