German clubs catch exciting groups

The German Champions League starters had very different experiences when they were drawn: Exciting group, lucky ticket, shock program. In the Europa League, Eintracht Frankfurt and Bayer Leverkusen cannot complain.

Europa League live on RTL

Mediengruppe RTL will show the Europa League and the Europa Conference League from the 2021/22 season. The media group has exclusive access to a total of 282 games per season. The games are shown on television on RTL and Nitro, and there is also streaming via the TVNOW video portal.

The Bundesliga soccer teams Bayer Leverkusen and Eintracht Frankfurt are faced with attractive but solvable tasks on their way to the knockout round of the Europa League. Frankfurt will face Mesut Özil and Fenerbahce Istanbul as well as Olympiacos Piraeus and Royal Antwerp in the group stage. That was the result of the draw in Istanbul. Leverkusen will play against Celtic Glasgow, Real Betis Sevilla and Ferencvaros Budapest. Against the Hungarians there is a reunion with the former Bundesliga coach Peter Stöger.

From a German point of view, it will also be exciting in Group B: There are plenty of German football celebrities gathering there. For example, the former Bayern coach Niko Kovac, together with goalkeeper Alexander Nübel and national striker Kevin Volland, will meet PSV Eindhoven with their AS Monaco. The Dutch also have three German football celebrities under contract: coach Roger Schmidt, World Cup hero Mario Götze and DFB defender Philipp Max. The group is completed by Real San Sebastian and Sturm Graz.

The group matches start on September 16th and end on December 9th. The group winners go straight to the round of 16, the runners-up play against the third-placed teams from the group games of the Champions League for the round of 16. The group third continue to play in the knockout phase of the Conference League. The Europa League final will take place in Seville on May 18, 2022.
