Franziska Brausse crowned in pursuit, Ethan Hayter in omnium

The German Franziska Brausse became world champion in the individual pursuit on Saturday evening at the Saint-Quentin-en-Yvelines velodrome.

She succeeds her compatriot Lisa Brennauer in this discipline mastered by the Germans, Olympic team pursuit champions last summer in Tokyo.

Franziska Brausse, vice-world champion in 2021, beat New Zealander Bryony Botha in the final.

Britain’s Josie Knight took bronze by keeping the best of another German, Mieke Kroger.

In American women, the Belgian pair formed by Lotte Kopecky and Shari Bossuyt won by one point over the French Clara Copponi and Valentine Fortin, by 32 points to 31.

On the men’s side, Briton Ethan Hayter retained his omnium title, winning ahead of Frenchman Benjamin Thomas and New Zealander Aaron Gate.

The Londoner perfectly managed the four events of this Olympic discipline to win with twenty points ahead of Thomas, titled in 2017 and 2020, who brings his sixth medal to France.
