When it comes to figure and nutrition, Franziska van Almsick does not seem to put any pressure on herself: “I also have phases in which I weigh more.”

Ex-Olympic swimmer Franziska van Almsick (43) is relaxed about her figure. They too have “phases in which I weigh more”, she reveals to the “Bild” newspaper in an interview. Accordingly, she does not attach any importance to a weight that is displayed to her in numbers: “I threw my scales away.”

Van Almsick may have a desired weight, but would simply see it in itself. Treating yourself to something every now and then is part of it for her. “Sometimes two glasses of wine too much, sometimes just fast food, that is pizza and gummy bears.” She would “not be able to cope at all” with a nutrition plan. Only before public appearances does the 43-year-old get involved in diets. “Then I have to pull myself together for two weeks and do without something unhealthy.” She also does sports every other day.

She’s had enough of bodyshaming

Van Almsick has had enough of bodyshaming. “I find this appraisal horrific,” she says. Her final appeal: “We are always so quick and say: ‘What does he look like? He lets himself go, he’s completely through.’ We shouldn’t do that. “
