The cult sitcom “Frasier” is getting a revival season. The ten new episodes start in October on the Paramount+ streaming service.

Almost exactly 30 years after the original series premiered, “Frasier” returns to screens in October. The revival of the popular sitcom will be released on October 13 in Germany on the Paramount+ streaming service, as announced in a press release on Wednesday. At the start there is a double episode. The remaining eight episodes of the first reboot season will then appear on a weekly basis. A short teaser trailer sets the mood for the return of the iconic series.

That’s what the “Frasier” revival is all about

Main character Frasier Crane (Kelsey Grammer, 68) moves from Seattle to Boston in the new episodes. There, the therapist and radio presenter begins the “next chapter of his life,” as the official plot description puts it. Frasier is embracing “new challenges”, building new relationships, and wants to “fulfil old dreams”. In some cases, the Revival season will also play in a university setting.

Only Kelsey Grammer returns from the original cast

The change of location already indicates the exchange of the arsenal of figures. The actors and series stars John Mahoney (1940-2018) and David Hyde Pierce (64) are no longer part of the “Frasier” revival. Mahoney, who played Frasier’s father, Martin Crane, passed away in 2018.

Pierce, who played Niles Crane, the main character’s brother, decided against returning. “I don’t feel like I can think of anything else to say about the character. […] I love these characters, but I don’t miss them,” he explained opposite “Vulture”. However, Pierce did not rule out a future return for shorter cameo appearances.

Frasier’s Boston ex-wife, Dr. Lilith Sternin should see viewers again in the ten episodes of the reboot season that are now appearing. Actress Bebe Neuwirth (64) will make a guest appearance. Newcomers are Jack Cutmore-Scott (“Tenet”, 36) as Frasier’s son Freddy, Nicholas Lyndhurst (62) as his old college friend Alan, who is now a university professor, and Toks Olagundoye (“Castle”, 47) as Alan’s colleague and Head of the Psychology Department at the University of Olivia.

Impressive Emmy record

With a total of 37 Emmy wins (with 107 nominations), “Frasier” was the series with the most Emmy awards for a long time. Game of Thrones surpassed that in 2016, but the show still holds the record for most Emmy wins by a comedy series.
