Fraud on the Internet – Instead of high profits, a man lost 176,000 euros

A 53-year-old from Upper Austria found a financial service provider on the internet. He promised big profits. That appealed to the man and he subsequently transferred many thousands of euros. But he saw nothing of the profits.

Despite countless warnings from the police and the media, there are still people who are robbed of their money by internet scammers. So did this 53-year-old from the Schärding district. He came across a financial service provider through paid advertising on the Internet that advertised high returns. After the unknown perpetrator contacted him by phone, the man was promised horrendous profits. The scammer helped himself. Therefore, the victim transferred several sums via bank transfer and crypto transactions to accounts unknown to him. Some of these transfers were also carried out by the perpetrator using software. However, the promised profits did not materialize and the invested money was not transferred back. Overall, the 53-year-old suffered financial damage of an incredible 176,000 euros. Tips from the police:-> stay suspicious – please don’t believe everything you see, hear and read on the internet-> don’t be fooled by the promised profits be tempted and get at least a second opinion – in person-> consult the Financial Market Authority: www.fma.gv.at-> do not allow strangers online remote access to your computer-> contact them in the event of a claim Contact your bank immediately and then report it to the police
