The writer and literary critic Frederic Beigbeder released his latest book, A dam against the Atlantic, January 5, 2022, Grasset editions. A work which is, moreover, the sequel toA French novel, released in 2009. Currently promoting this new novel, it is the portrait of Release this Friday, January 14. Now 56 years old, this former party animal is now the happy dad of Chloë, 22 years old, Oona, 6 years old and Léonard, 4 years old. With his children and his companion, the model Lara Micheli, Frédéric Beigbeder lives peacefully in the Southwest, in Guéthary (Basque Country).
But recently, her tidy life has been turned upside down. As he confides in the pages of Release, the columnist’s house was vandalized for a very specific reason. While our colleagues ask him the name of his residence, the ex-companion of Laura Smet answers: “I prefer not to say it, because it was tagged. I was ‘the friend of pedophiles’, after my support for Matzneff and Polanski. I filed a complaint, but, of course, we don’t know who it is…“, did he declare.

Why Matzneff and Polanski?
Gabriel Matzneff, an 85-year-old French writer, is known for his pedophile practices, assumed and claimed in several of his works such as Under sixteen (1974). At the time, these actions were viewed with complacency. On January 2, 2020, editor Vanessa Springora released a book, The consent, published by Grasset, in which she recounts her relationship under control with the writer Gabriel Matzneff when she was minor. The facts denounced have not been the subject of legal proceedings due to prescription, but continue to beembarrass the literary world.
As for the filmmaker Roman Polansky, he has been prosecuted since 1977 in the United States for rape by 13-year-old Samantha Gailey. Over the years, new testimonies of rape and sexual assault came to overwhelm the producer, like that of the model Charlotte Lewis or the French photographer Valentine Monnier. In November 2019, in a text published by The Parisian, the latter accused him of having raped her in 1975, when she was 18 years old. Boycotted by many personalities, Roman Polanski made a lot of turmoil in the world of cinema.
