A true living legend of French song, the Italian-Belgian musician Frédéric François is celebrating his 74th birthday this Monday, June 3, 2024. Born into a modest family near Sicily in 1950, the singer then emigrated with his family to Belgium during his youth. Francesco Barracato, his real name, sang for fun when he was still a child. Under the encouragement of his father, he became semi-professional in 1963 before joining the Liège Conservatory two years later. In 1969, Frédéric François signed his very first contract with a record company, before quickly achieving success thanks to his songs in France. It was precisely this same year that he met the love of his life, Monique Vercauteren. The couple officially tied the knot just a year later. They then gave birth to their first child, a little girl named Gloria, in 1971.
