Smartphones that allow you to change the cell phone battery yourself are a rarity these days. It is permanently installed in most devices. It can therefore only be changed in the workshop, which is usually an expensive undertaking. But Oppo apparently now wants to break new ground in this regard.
The well-known insider Digital Chat Station wrote on Weibo, a Chinese platform, that the manufacturer is probably planning to offer free battery replacement for its fans.
Conditions for changing batteries
Initially, the service will only be available in China; there do not appear to be any plans to expand it to other markets. According to Digital Chat Station, the option to change the battery will initially only be available for the Oppo A2 Pro, which is scheduled to be presented in China on September 15th. After purchasing the smartphone, customers can have the battery replaced once for four years if it falls below 80 percent of its performance.
It remains to be seen whether Oppo will actually offer the service. If the concept is successful, manufacturers like Samsung or Xiaomi are likely to jump on the bandwagon. This would probably be a step in the right direction, especially when it comes to sustainability, as the battery is often the reason for buying a new cell phone.
