Free does not intend to increase the price of its mobile plans in the next 5 years

Despite the insistent rumors concerning probable price increases for mobile plans, Free clearly announces its intentions not to deny its reputation as a low-cost operator.

The increase in mobile operator tariffs is becoming an increasingly insistent subject over the months. It must be said that the exponential cost of network infrastructures, in particular with the arrival of 5G, represents, in addition to an inflationary economic context, an increasingly large share of expenses among operators. A cost that could naturally be transferred to the price of the packages according to several media.

Free’s strategy is clear: not to tarnish its reputation as a cheap operator that has not increased its prices for 10 years now, but above all to position itself ahead of the competition on the subject. Free therefore takes the lead in announcing its desire to not to increase the prices of its main mobile plan offers, at least in the next 5 years. This announcement concerns both current and future customers.

In terms of mobile plan pricing, France remains the Western country offering the most competitive rates on the market, well ahead of Germany and the United Kingdom, where prices have exploded in recent years. According to the French Telecoms Federation, operators have nevertheless invested more than 11.5 billion euros in France in 2020 in fixed and mobile networks and the bill is likely to be even higher in the years to come.

Two historical packages at fixed prices

Since 2021, Free has endeavored to have a clear reading of its mobile offer with at least the presence of two very distinct packages. These are guaranteed not to see their prices change:

  • Flat rate €2 with 2 hour call + 50 MB in 4G/4G+ and unlimited SMS/MMS maintained at 2 euros per month (Free for Freebox subscribers)
  • Free 5G package with 210 GB in 4G+/5G + unlimited calls, SMS and MMS maintained at 19.99 euros per month (15.99 euros per month for Freebox subscribers)

However, there remains an unknown: the Free package in a limited series. The latter oscillates between 70 and 110 GB in 4G / 4G + with prices varying from 8.99 to 11.99 euros per month. The press release does not indicate whether or not it will suffer a price increase in the future.
