Free dreams of a European destiny in telecoms


ANALYSIS – The group is posting growth of 5.5% in 2021, driven by Italy and Poland.

After a few sluggish years, Iliad, Free’s parent company, has moved forward. Last year, it generated a turnover of 7.5 billion euros, an increase of nearly 30%. This leap is partly linked to its commercial performance. Its French revenues increased by 3.8%, for 20.5 million customers, and those in Italy by 19%, with 8.5 million subscribers. The surge is also attributable to the acquisition of the Polish Play in 2020, adding 1.6 billion euros in turnover to the group. A third of its income is generated outside our borders.

“In four years, we have gone from the status of French telecom operator to that of the sixth European operator, with 41.4 million subscribers”, emphasizes Thomas Reynaud, CEO of Iliad. A change of dimension, which illustrates the group’s new international ambitions.
